Diy : Yarn Wrapped Vase Tutorial

Hey everyone, next month that is July 2015 My Indian Version is celebrating 'ONLY DIY MONTH'. Come and join with me to celebrate DIYs.....

I was always attracted towards colorful yarns my mom used to make sweaters with. My mind use to wander to find some kind of yarn crafts. I came across wrapped yarn craft ideas in Pinterest DIY & crafts section. It was a upcycling DIY for empty wine bottles. And my creative brain clicked.....I had an old but beautifully shaped vase lying around. So I decided to do DIY upcycle project with this old vase and some yarn. Since then it became one of my favorite DIY crafts

Yes, and I have made its tutorial with pictures all for you guys.....Also at the ends of this tutorial there are some of my extra tips about this project.

Come on let's starts it then.....

Process

STEP 1:  First turn vase upside down and apply glue in circular way at the very bottom of the vase. Then take one end of the yarn and slowly keep it over the glue line.

STEP 2:  For first two to three rounds apply glue in circular lines, similar to step 1.

STEP 3:  After that apply glue in vertical direction at regular intervals and keep on wrapping yarn carefully around the vase. This prevents the yarn from slipping whenever you hold it.

STEP 4:  After completing 1/4th (one-forth) turn the vase in upright position and continue wrapping. Adjust the wrapped yarn so that you won't see any actual vase surface between yarns.

STEP 5:  If you are using single color yarn then skip this step. I wanted to add another color in middle part of vase so for joining it cut out the first yarn and stick its end properly on the vase. Now stick one end of another color yarn to vase just beside the first one. Don't leave any space between them.

STEP 6:  Now keep applying glue at regular intervals and wrap the yarn around. If you want to add another color yarn after this then follow step 5.

STEP 7:  When you reach at almost top of the vase turn it upside down for proper view. Remember whenever the shape changes apply glue on full surface and then slowly wrap the yarn according to the shape of vase.

STEP 8:  Wrap yarn inside the vase for about 1/2 (half) to 1 inch of width. This gives it a cleaner look. Stick the final end of yarn properly.

Isn't it a easy yarn-craft-cum-upcycling-DIY. Before you go and grab the materials for this project I want you to read following extra tips about this project.
  • Use medium to thick yarn for this DIY. Very thin yarns can cause many problems and also will be time consuming.
  • Keep watch on amount of glue you are applying, more glue can make yarn wrapping a mess.
  • Slightly pat on the yarn after wrapping it so that it will stick properly on the vase.
  • Whenever the shape of vase changes apply glue on whole surface rather than on equal intervals.
  • You can use back of your tweezer or any small flat object to adjust the wrapped yarn.
  • Adjust the wrapped yarn before its glue dries off.

That's it! I learnt these tips when I was actually making this DIY yarn craft. So to help you a little more shared it with you.

OK, now you can go and find some old (or new also!) vase or empty wine bottle and some colored yarns and start your DIY yarn wrapped vase.....And don't forget to share photo of it on My Indian Version's Facebook and Google+ page.
